Usage

What are Synthroid uses?

Synthroid is one of the thyroid medicines that help in replacing a hormone normally produced by your thyroid gland in order to regulate the body’s energy as well as metabolism. Levothyroxine Synthroid is often given by the doctor when your thyroid does not produce enough of this hormone on its own.

Synthroid thyroid medicine is also given for treating hypothyroidism which is low thyroid hormone. Therefore, Synthroid medication is very effective in treating as well as preventing goitre which is mainly caused due to the hormone imbalances, surgery, radiation treatment as well as cancer. Do not use this medicine to treat infertility until and unless it is caused by low thyroid hormone levels.

Synthroid generic drug is available in the brand name of Levoxyl, Synthroid and Tirosint.

What is the dosage of Synthroid medication?

Levothyroxine Synthroid works best if you take it an empty stomach at least 30 to 60 minutes before the breakfast. Strictly follow your doctor’s dosing instruction and take the medicine regularly at the same time so that you remember taking it.

In children, Synthroid and levothyroxine medication doses are completely based on the weight of children. If your child begins to gain weight or lose weight, then the doctor will change the dose.
