Tamoxifen when to use 

This medicine is mainly used for treating breast cancer, while it is also prescribed to reduce the chances of breast cancer in high-risk patients. It helps in blocking the actions of estrogen which is a female hormone. Certain types of breast cancer require estrogen in order to grow. Tamoxifen tablet is often used for treating some of the types of breast cancer in both men as well as women. Tamoxifen for men and women works by interfering with the effects of estrogen in the breast tissue.  

What is the Tamoxifen dosage? 

Strictly follow all the directions that are mentioned on your prescription label. Tamoxifen 20mg tablet should not be taken in smaller or larger amounts or for longer time than recommended. Tamoxifen 10mg and 20mg tablet should be taken by mouth with or without the food mainly once or twice daily as directed by your doctor. The liquid medicine should be measured with the dosing syringe which is provided with the medicine or with the help of dose-measuring spoon.  

You need to have frequent blood tests during the intake of this medicine. This medicine needs to be stopped for short time when you need surgery or medical tests. Make sure that you inform your doctor that you are taking this medicine.  

Precautions to be follow while using Tamoxifen citrate 

While using Tamoxifen citrate medicine, you should always have regular physical exams and mammograms as well as also self-examine your breast for lumps every month. What are the signs of Tamoxifen tablet side effects? 

  • Signs of blood clot in the lung-like chest pain, wheezing, coughing up blood, rapid breathing and sudden cough
  • Signs of a stroke-like slurred speech, vision problems, sudden numbness or weakness as well as sudden severe headache
  • Signs of blood clot in your leg like warmth, swelling, pain or redness in one or both legs. 

Consult your doctor once if you have: 

  • Changes in your menstrual periods as well as new breast lump
  • Tunnel vision, blurred vision, eye pain and seeing halos around lights
  • Pressure and pain in your pelvic area
  • Liver problems such as nausea, itching, upper stomach pain, feeling of tiredness, loss of appetite, dark urine, jaundice and clay-coloured stools
  • High levels of calcium in your blood like constipation, vomiting, muscles weakness, increased thirst or urination, confusion, bone pain, tired as well as lack of energy
