Zithromax – An Effective Acne TreatmentZithromax is the generic form of Azithromycin which has gained popularity in the recent past for the treatment of acne. It is especially beneficial for treating inflammatory acne, which is resistant to other topical treatments. The treatment is very effective not only in treating the acne but also for reducing the risk of scarring – which is one of the greatest problems of people who suffer from acne.Treatment With ZithromaxThere are three types of treatment for acne with Zithromax:(1) The most popular of the three is the Z-Pak. This is a pre-packed treatment box that contains one 500 mg tablet that is to be taken on the first day, four tablets of 250 gm that are to be taken over the next four days. The affected person would be required to take one Z-Pak every month; or twice a month once starting on the 1st day of the month and another on the 15th of the month.(2) The second treatment involves taking Zithromax in dosages of 200 mg or 500 mg thrice weekly for 8-10 weeks depending upon the severity of the acne problem.(3) The third treatment involves taking Zithromax in cycles of three days on and seven days off for 8-10 weeks. Is It Really Effective?According to various studies and feedback, the answer is a definite ‘yes’. Zithromax was most effective when used for at least 8 weeks – with about 89% of the patients getting rid of their acne with the treatment.ContraindicationsThe only contraindication to this treatment is to ensure that you do not take any antacids containing aluminum and magnesium because this would interfere with the absorption of the antibiotic and hence, cut down the effectiveness of the treatment. Why Zithromax Is Better Than Any Other Antibiotic?Zithromax is preferred as an antibiotic because of the advantages it offers over other antibiotics:(1) It does not cause the gastrointestinal disturbances as that other normal antibiotics cause. Many patients tend to discontinue antibiotic treatment because of these harmful effects; with Zithromax this is no longer a risk.(2) It does not cause sensitivity to UV light as other acne medications do. This means that the treatment can be undertaken without worrying about going out in the sun.Possible Side EffectsThe side effects of Zithromax are very few and rare. Keep a watch for mild symptoms of diarrhea, colitis, nausea, and headache among others. Be aware that extended use of Zithromax might increase the risk of contacting vaginal yeast.
